ENGL 2760

Summative Reflection

Before this class I kind of knew about gender issues I was very limited in what I knew, it wasn’t enough to be knowledgeable or fully understand. Since gender topics have been a lot more popular lately I decided to take this class to educate myself. I’m now more aware of what is going on. I think I have enough knowledge to form accurate opinions and understanding of the world around me. I’ve become more knowledgeable about the changing society around me.

I think The Left Hand of Darkness really helped me learn a lot. Instead of focusing on gender or gender differences Le Guin completely takes that away from readers in order for readers to just build on the characters without gender. She proves you don’t need gender to have deep, rounded characters. I cared about the characters just as much. I developed the characters in my head like I would with any other story.

Virtual Exhibit Process Reflection

Our group from the beginning was one short. I don’t think that mattered too much. We all contributed pieces while one girl put together the site. We aimed to turn it in early and I think we did well to stick to that goal. Strengths would have to be we all pitched in, we all agreed on a topic early, no one fought or was unkind, we all added to the assignment in reasonable time. Limitations would be some of us added the same thing to our information bucket as another, the girl who put the site together may have been pressured or stressed over such a big task (websites are difficult!) Another big limitation I think was time, I think if we had more time we could have made a better website. I would have loved to add more details or videos. Overall it was a decent group experience.
