Treating burns can be a very serious matter. Many people know the basics but not the proper way to treat a serious burn. Without proper care more serious problems could occur. Here are a few steps to help you treat burns, at any level.

FIRST DEGREE BURNS

First degree burn

First degree burns are just the outer layer of skin that is burnt. It is usually just a pinkish/red color. It can be very painful but WILL NOT blister.

1. Run under COOL water for 15-20 minutes.

2. Keep affected area out of heat and sunlight.

3. Use Aloe Vera lotions, gels, or plants to help alleviate pain.

SECOND DEGREE BURNS

Second degree burn

Second degree burns occur when the second layer of skin has been burnt. This is the point where it will start to blister and will likely be extremely painful.

1. Run under (or submerge) in COOL water for 15-20 minutes

2. Cover loosely with sterile band-aids or gauze. Avoid any material that could  leave a fluff in the burn.

3. DO NOT use ointments, butter, or egg-whites. they can lead to infection.

4. Take over the counter medicine (if needed) to help with pain

5. Use sunscreen for a year after burn heals to avoid any further skin pigment discoloration.

THIRD DEGREE BURNS

Third degree burn

Third degree burns are a little different, they will always need careful medical attention. Third degree burns are very easily recognizable. They are typically either white or black and have very little pain if any.

 1. Seek IMMEDIATE professional medical help.

2.DO NOT submerge in water. It could cause hypothermia and/or shock.

3. Cover with cool sterile cloth or bandage.

 4. Elevate if possible.
