Flashback

It was Madi’s first birthday after her accident. Everyone was there celebrating; she was turning four. We were done opening presents and it was time for cake. Everyone gathered around the table to watch and sing to her. I was sitting across the table watching her grin from ear to ear. The candles were lit, it was all pink with some kind of princess theme, The cake was set down in front of her. Her eyes focused on the four candles, that smile faded, her eyes glazed, the horror on her face went all the way back to the day of the accident in .2 seconds. She blew as hard as she could; once the candles were out the smile came back.
